Description
SABINO France Opalescent SWALLOWS 8" Centerpiece, c. 1920's-30's."
This piece is decorated with six swallows in flight molded in relief on the bottom of the glass. The glass has a rich opalescence found in the earlier pieces of Sabino glass. Marked "Sabino, France" in relief in the center. Sabino (1879-1961) was an Italian born Parisian who developed his own chemical formula for glass that has a frosted appearance and when held to the light, the molded design has a golden opalescent glow. This centerpiece is one of his earlier creations and is now hard-to-find in this size.
"
There are notable tiny bubbles in the glass from when it was made in a few spots. No scratches, chips, or any other notable marks visible on this beautuful piece. This is a family heirloom and belonged to my grandmother and mother and has always been in a display case carefully handled.
